The amateur will typically look at a Rave BodyGraph, identify the Defined Channels, the Profile, maybe the Incarnation Cross, then they will look those things up in one of the reference manuals available, thinking that this is all there is to it. The Human Design System provides so much more than labels, tips, and tricks about what it means to be a human being.
Fundamentally, Human Design is the synthesis of three ancient wisdoms; the observational system of Astrology, the Chinese I Ching, and the Hindu-Brahmin Chakras. The original Chinese I Ching, produced over 2,500 years ago, provided a specific sequential progression of Energies, called Hexagrams, that are numbered 1 – 64. Understanding this process and where one is currently located within it has provided millions of people, throughout millennia, deep insight into the meaning of life. Astrology, in one form or another, has been serving millions of people for thousands of years and, interestingly, the standard Astrological Signs we are most familiar with also came in to existence around 2,500 years ago. The Human Design System updates both wisdoms and combines them producing The Rave Mandala. The study of the sequence and relationships found within the Rave Mandala, as we do in PTL1, sets up a very basic and vital understanding of several structures found within the Human Design System. We peak behind the curtain and begin to become aware of the greater process that we are all subject to. We explore how certain Energetic dynamics are predictable, cyclical, and unrelenting; bringing a deeper appreciation for what Ra often referred to as “Passenger Consciousness”. The words, “Follow your Strategy and Authority” take on a new importance as we recognize that any attempt to control, manipulate, or force the Life Process is truly futile.
Then, we look deeply at the structure of the Rave BodyGraph. Ra stated that it was the dynamic of the Channels of Potential Definition that truly makes Human Design valuable; without it, he would have had nothing new to offer. This is where Human Design updates the Hindu-Brahmin structure of Chakras and integrates it with the other two Ancient Wisdoms. The most obvious and critical change is that humanity is now an Energy with 9 Centers, not 7. Additionally, the goal is to recognize the Defined, consistent, Energies from the Undefined, inconsistent Energies. No attempt is made to change or move these Energies; they are allowed to change and move us! The BodyGraph continues to illustrate the diversification of Energetic Archetypes of human experience; understanding this schematic structure, even before bringing in definition through the Planetary Activations, is very rich ground for examination. Circuits, Streams, and Channels provide so much basic and essential power in the understanding of any BodyGraph. By the Third Semester of PTL1, each Student has a better appreciation for how a BodyGraph is “alive” and “vital”; no longer is it a static, flat, or lifeless image. The BodyGraph is seen as a snap-shot and the implications of how it will interact with others and Life in general becomes very real. We understand Ra’s statement that it is the height of vanity and egoism to believe that humanity can figure life out, with certainty, predict it and in any way control it. The better perspective is one of awe, wonder, and appreciation.
